Tomorrowland is making waves by launching its inaugural festival in Asia, set to take place in Thailand this December. This groundbreaking event marks a significant moment for the renowned European electronic dance music (EDM) festival, which has captivated audiences around the globe.
The choice of Thailand as the host nation comes from its rapidly growing prominence in the realms of music, innovation, and tourism experiences that are centered around live events. According to Tomorrowland's announcement on Tuesday, this decision reflects a strategic vision for expanding their influence.
Since its inception two decades ago by Belgian siblings Manu and Michiel Beers, Tomorrowland has evolved into a celebrated fixture in the EDM world. The flagship event held annually in Belgium is famous for its spectacular stages and vibrant parties, drawing music enthusiasts from all corners of the earth.
In Thailand, organizers anticipate welcoming over 50,000 attendees each day at the picturesque beach town of Pattaya, scheduled for December 11 to 13. Ticket pre-registration kicks off on January 8, with a full three-day pass priced at 12,500 baht (approximately $400 or £300) and a single-day ticket available for 5,100 baht.
Details regarding the festival’s theme and artist lineup will be unveiled soon, adding to the excitement. While Tomorrowland has previously hosted events in various Asian cities, this festival is notable for its scale, mirroring the grandeur of its Belgian counterpart.
An agreement has been finalized between Thailand and Tomorrowland to host this festival for five consecutive years, with expectations to generate a staggering 21 billion baht (around $673 million or £497 million) during this period, according to reports from Thai media.
Bruno Vanwelsenaers, CEO of Tomorrowland, commented, "Expanding Tomorrowland to a new continent is a milestone we approach with great respect and excitement... This is the beginning of a long-term story." Such sentiments highlight the significance of this venture in the festival’s history.
Thailand's position as a rising star in the live music arena has been solidified in recent years, with the country hosting major international music festivals like Electric Daisy Carnival and Creamfields. Furthermore, Bangkok recently served as a stop on K-pop sensation Blackpink's world tour last October.
Additionally, the homegrown music and arts festival Wonderfruit is gaining traction, attracting tens of thousands of festival-goers each year and establishing itself as a must-visit event on the global festival circuit.
