In a bold statement, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has accused India of double standards in its treatment of Bangladeshi pacer Muztafizur Rahman and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He questioned the decision to send back Rahman, while India and Pakistan played a cricket match after the Pahalgam attack, and wondered why India didn't apply the same principle to Hasina, who has been living in the country since her departure amidst protests.
"After the Pahalgam attack, we played with Pakistan in the Asia Cup," Owaisi said, highlighting the hypocrisy of India's actions. "A Bangladeshi woman is living in India, so send her too. Why is she being stopped in the country? Stability in Bangladesh is important for India. China and Pakistan are active in Bangladesh. We have to look into that too," he added, inviting discussion and controversy.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ordered Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders to release Rahman from their roster for the IPL 2026 season, citing ongoing violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. Some leaders, including Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, objected to mixing sports and politics. However, Owaisi's statement raises questions about the consistency of India's approach to the two cases, sparking a debate on the matter.
