The glitz and glamour of Miss Universe is facing a crisis! The current owner, Raul Rocha, is reportedly seeking to sell the pageant, a move fueled by a whirlwind of controversies that have recently plagued the competition. From judges resigning to accusations of rigged results, the iconic beauty contest is under fire. But what exactly is happening behind the scenes? Let's dive in.
Following the Miss Universe finale in Bangkok on November 21, 2025, Rocha, in an interview on November 24, revealed his weariness with the ongoing issues.
"Looking for someone to pass it on to," he stated, comparing his role to a relay race, asking, "Who do I pass the baton to?" This sentiment, translated from an interview with Mexican journalist Adela Micha, highlights his frustration. Since acquiring the organization in January 2024, Rocha has expressed his exhaustion, stating, "It's just that I'm so fed up. I'm so fed up with all the talk. I don't lend myself to that kind of thing." He also emphasized that while he holds the title of owner and president, everyone seems to have an opinion on how to run the business.
But here's where it gets controversial...
One of the most significant controversies involves a public dispute between President Raul Rocha and former Miss Universe judge Omar Harfouch. Harfouch resigned on November 18, just days before the finale, alleging that the organization had formed an "impromptu jury" that pre-selected the 30 finalists before the preliminary round. This led to further resignations, including those of pro soccer player Claude Makelele and Princess Camilla di Borbone delle Due Sicilie from the selection committee.
After Fatima Bosch was crowned Miss Universe 2025, Harfouch publicly labeled Miss Mexico a "fake winner." He claimed to have predicted the outcome, alleging that Rocha was in business with Fatima Bosch's father.
And this is the part most people miss...
Amidst the chaos, Miss Universe India Director Nikhil Anand issued a statement on November 26, 2025, defending Fatima Bosch's win and urging support for Miss Mexico. He asked for unwavering support for Miss Mexico as she is a human with "feelings, a family, and heart full of hope".
