Signing Okamoto could signal a shift in Seattle's strategy. They've been primarily focused on upgrading at second base. However, with Okamoto's versatility, he could be an intriguing addition. The Mariners are also assessing their young third base prospects, such as Colt Emerson, Cole Young, and Ben Williamson.
The Third Base Conundrum
Former Mariner Eugenio Suarez has been a potential option at third base, but even if he returns, he might be used more as a designated hitter. Another trade target, Brendan Donovan, could also play third, but his versatility might see him used more at second base if the Mariners acquire him.
