Gas Prices Hit 4-Year Low in San Luis Obispo County: Find the Cheapest Stations! (2026)

Gas prices in San Luis Obispo County have dipped to a four-year low, offering residents a welcome seasonal break at the pump. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded dropped to $4.267 as of Wednesday, the lowest since May 2021, according to GasBuddy. Analysts expect a broader national trend toward lower prices, with some forecasts suggesting the national average could fall to its lowest since 2020.

GasBuddy’s Patrick De Haan noted that Christmas often brings cycle lows for fuel prices, and 2025 follows that pattern. He pointed to refinery maintenance wrapping up, rising overall supply, and weaker winter demand compared with summer as factors keeping prices down. He also cautioned that any relief could extend into next year, though regional variations remain possible.

Beyond the favorable statewide trend, San Luis Obispo County isn’t currently saddled with the nation’s steepest gas prices. In fact, the region ranks No. 10 among the country’s metropolitan areas for relatively affordable fuel, with several nearby areas posting much higher averages. San Diego, Los Angeles, Napa, Orange County, and Ventura all have higher typical prices, illustrating the county’s comparatively favorable standing.

Price variation within the county remains notable. GasBuddy’s map shows a broad spread: the priciest regular gas was at a Shell station on Main Street in Cambria at $5.59 per gallon — the highest county price. A Chevron on the same stretch was $5.39, the second-highest.

In contrast, the lowest prices were found at Conserv Fuel locations on Santa Rosa Street and Broad Street in San Luis Obispo, each listed at $3.69 per gallon. Other inexpensive options in the county included:
- Costco, San Luis Obispo: $3.75
- San Paso Truck Stop, Paso Robles: $3.79
- Valero, San Luis Obispo: $3.79
- Speedway, San Luis Obispo (two locations): $3.83 each
- Lucky 7, Morro Bay: $3.83
- USA Gasoline, Morro Bay: $3.85
- Sinclair, Morro Bay: $3.87
